Book A Hunter in the Countryside by Willy Schraen

For the defense of rurality! Since his election as head of the National Federation of Hunters in August 2016, Willy Schraen has multiplied reforms and engaged in a permanent dialogue to try to facilitate relations between the hunting world and other users of nature. A man of convictions, he has a true political vision on rurality and its future, on the place of hunting in a society increasingly oriented towards cities and disconnected from its roots. His numerous meetings at the top of the state have allowed him to bring hunting into the 21st century: reduction of the national hunting license fee, authorization of animal quotas based on populations, drastic reinforcement of safety, etc.

His combativeness has provoked the reaction of all those who campaign for the abolition of hunting in France: animalists, anti-speciesists, vegans, etc. He nevertheless assures that hunters are the first ecologists in France. To the point that today a practical ecology and a dogmatic ecology clash.

In this essay, Willy Schraen offers an assessment of our fractured society, whose elites have long ignored the lives of rural citizens. He proposes solutions for the reconquest of territories by citizens and a reweaving between city and countryside, in which ethical and reasoned hunting must both be maintained and find its place. He affirms loudly: "Hunting is too beautiful to die of misunderstanding and nature without rurality could not survive for long."

The book is prefaced by Mr. Dupond-Moretti, who became Minister of Justice. Attached to individual freedoms, including the freedom to hunt in peace, he supports Willy Schraen's fight for the defense of ethical hunting in respect of biodiversity and against dogmatic ecology with this preface. His text ends with the following words: "(...) for hunters to raise their heads, finally!"
